Mobile Solutions (RF, GPRS, 3G)

Generically the solutions belong one of two categories: always connected or occasionally connected. Always connected devices typically make use of a reliable Radio Frequency (RF)/Wifi network; occasionally connected devices make use of mobile networks such as 3G and GPRS.
NetWeaver Mobile Infrastructure (MI)
Mobile Infrastructure (SAP MI) is a SAP NetWeaver technology solution on which SAP occasionally connected Mobile Business solutions are based, and this can also be used to integrate non SAP solutions as well.
SAP MI is installed locally on a mobile device and is equipped with a Web server, a database layer and its own business logic. Users working remotely can therefore work offline and do not have to wait for a network connection to complete time-critical business applications. The SAP MI offers tools for synchronization and data replication that make the data of the mobile device consistent with that of the backend and is used in the SAP application such as CRM mobile sales, DSD and MAM (Mobile Asset Management).
SAP MI is based on open industry standards:

- Extensible Mark-up Language (XML)
The open system architecture makes the platform independent of the mobile devices and the network, and supports mobile devices such as personal digital assistants, laptops and smart phones. SAP MI can run on both a standard browser and on a user interface that is not based on a browser and in various forms, supports;

- Mobile Asset Management for utilities (MAU)
- Mobile Time and Travel

There are several SAP NetWeaver technologies that enable always connected mobile applications.
SAPConsole
SAPConsole is an additional element to the SAP landscape and is used to translate GUI Screens to character based screens using Telnet standards which are commonly used on Radio Frequency devices in warehouses. SAPConsole provides a quick and robust method of deploying Radio Frequency transactions including native warehouse, task and resource management and yard transactions, as well as add-on or bespoke transactions.
WebSAPConsole
Web enabled SAPConsole (WebSAPConsole) introduces the use of a web server, running Microsoft IIS or SAP's own Web Application Server (WAS), to publish GUI Screens to a web browsers on RF mobile devices. The significant advantage over SAPConsole's text based approach is the user experience, where WebSAPConsole maintains the graphical look and feel of SAPGUI screens as well as the support for touch screens.
WebSAPConsole also provides a method of direct integration of mobile voice solutions, for example warehouse voice picking.
ITSMobile technology is now superseding WebSAPConsole.
ITS
The SAP Internet Transaction Server (ITS) is the link between the ERP (SAP R/3 or ECC) system and the Internet and is now an integrated part of NetWeaver rather than a standalone product. It enables Internet (and Intranet) users to communicate directly between transactions run on an ERP system and remote enabled function modules and reports on Internet applications components.
ITS Mobile
ITS Mobile is SAP's recently introduced fully integrated mobilisation solution that can be used to make an application, or parts of an application, executable in the browser of a mobile device. ITS mobile uses the ITS template technique and HTMLBusiness (HTMLB) to achieve this.
ITS Mobile also provides a method of direct integration of mobile voice solutions, for example warehouse voice picking.
