Extended Warehouse Management

SAP Extended Warehouse Management (formally Logistics Extension sets) builds upon the core SAP Logistics Execution functionality adding Task and Resource Management (TRM) and advanced Cross Docking processes to increase the visibility of advanced material flows, optimise the warehouse management resource and enable routing, task and labour management.

Task and Resource Management

Task and Resource Management integrates seamlessly into SAP Warehouse Management software and improves the efficiency of the warehouse processes by: constantly optimising work (tasks); the allocation of these tasks to resources; and controlling the execution of the work with reference to the site layout to prevent bottlenecks. TRM also provides enhanced visibility of all warehouse processes which enables more accurate operational management and enhanced reporting, assisting in problem resolution, resource scheduling and performance assessment.

Cross Docking

The cross docking solution fulfils customer's aims of handling materials more efficiently and minimises unnecessary material handling to reduce cycle times, storage and labour costs. The functionality provides for either planned decision based cross docking with supporting tools, or real time opportunistic cross docking, and is delivered with a number of reports for planning, monitoring and troubleshooting cross docking processes.

Integration

Enhanced Warehouse Management is fully integrated with the SAP ERP Logistics Execution System (LES) and Warehouse Management modules and, as with LES, can be deployed centrally or as a separate decentralised installation. Significant points of integration with standard ERP functionality are:

  • Warehouse Management
  • Handling unit Management (Cross Docking)
  • Shipping
  • Transportation

The Task and Resource Management system also provides a powerful method of integrating warehouse automation such as conveyors, AS-RS, sorters and palletisers.

Mobilising Extended Warehouse Management

Mobilisation of logistics processes and in particular warehouse processes can bring significant benefits a business in terms of throughput, accuracy and efficiency. SAP provides native support for warehouse and yard Radio Frequency (RF) devices for mobile data entry and barcode scanning as well as voice directed operations. This is achieved through standard elements of the SAP landscape:

  • SAPConsole
    Text based devices
  • WebSAPConsole
For graphical, touch screen and voice devices
  • ITS Mobile
The replacement for SAPConsole and WebSAPConsole in later releases of SAP Enterprise Core Component (ECC)

In addition Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) enablement of logistics processes is possible directly from SAP with the Auto-ID toolsets.

Logistics execution activities can also be mobilised to occasionally connected devices, for example devices connecting over a mobile 3G/GPRS) network, using the SAP NetWeaver Mobile Infrastructure. Find out more about our Mobile Solutions.
