Sony (Holland, Germany, France and UK)

  • The Sony Group is primarily focused on the electronics, game, entertainment and financial services sectors. The group consists of several sub divisions for example Sony BMG Music and Sony Corporation. Distribution is through a mixture of Sony stores, retailers, and direct customer delivery.
  • As part of a global supply chain strategy study Sony commenced a restructuring to its European distribution network, consolidating country specific warehouses into central distribution centres holding shared inventory and providing direct delivery and replenishment to other warehouses.
  • The main 47,000m3 distribution centre in Holland was a green field design incorporating full mobile data (RF) control of all processes and a carton conveyor system to meet the high volume throughput requirements, all controlled on a decentralised SAP Warehouse Management and Task & Resource Management platform.
  • Initial operational targets to distribute 4,500 deliveries in 450 trucks per week, equating to 68,000 picks per week.
  • Sony’s complex requirements were met through the integrated operational design and implementation of the new organisation, processes, and technology utilising the SAP R/3 Logistics Execution and Supply Chain software.
  • Warehouse activity was fully RF controlled and optimised through the extended Warehouse Management Task and Resource Management features.
  • Integration of Transportation Planning with Warehouse Management functions ensured seamless transfer of information along the supply chain, providing carton level tracking information through the carrier network and to the end customer.
